Growing in Grace

No one seeks to fail and if you are seeking the will of the Lord he doesn't want to see you fail either. Today during my study time I found yet another promise of this. Stuff like this is too good not to share :) I decided to post this just as I studied it. I have a Thomas Nelson King James Study Bible (if you are looking to make a Bible purchase I highly recommend this one). My Bible contains study notes at the bottom that break the passages down. The verses are posted in black and the highlighted areas contain the study notes from my Bible and a few of my own notes. I pray that God speaks to you as He did to me through these verses.

2Peter 1:3-11
(3)According as His divine power ("His divine power" is a title of God given by Jews who revered Him so much that they would not pronounce His name)  hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (Meaning we find all the tools that we need to lead a godly life through Jesus)  (4)Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (He is setting us up for success not failure)

In the following passages Peter urges his readers to grow to spiritual maturity:
(5)And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith ("add to your faith" in dictates the areas of growth after salvation) virtue (moral excellence) ; and to virtue knowledge (spiritual truth) ; (6)And to knowledge temperance (self-control) ; and to temperance patience (endurance) ; and to patience godliness (God-likeness) ; (7)And to godliness brotherly kindness (brotherly love) ; and to brotherly kindness charity (volitional love) . (8)For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9)But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off (or has no vision for his purpose/calling) , and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

(10)Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: (Peter is not referring to falling from salvation but to failure in Christian living)
And here is the promise: (11)For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

God spoke through Peter to show us the tools we needed for success. He desires for us to live well. He wishes for peace in our lives, but peace does not come by having everything "worked out" in the world. You can have a peaceful spirit even in the midst of tribulation if you know you are living in accordance to His will and calling on your life. Seek growth through God everlasting grace.
